Proverbs 4:23-27 23**Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 24Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. 25Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. 26Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. 27Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

Genesis 2:7–8 7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. 8And the LORD God *PLANTED a garden eastward in *EDEN; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
- Planted: (H5193) to establish, to plant, fasten, fix
- Eden: (H5730) delight, pleasure: delicate
Genesis 2:15 15And the LORD God took the man, and PUT him into the garden of Eden to DRESS it and to KEEP it.
-
Put: (H3240) to rest, to allow, to bestow, to settle down and remain
-
Dress: (H5647) to till, serve, work, to do, to keep and to cultivate
-
Keep: (H8104) to keep, guard, observe, give heed, preserve- to Watch (like a Watchman)
-
Verse 15: The word used in Hebrew for “work” is the same one as is used for “manual labor” and is also used for “worshipping God.” The picture we get of the man’s work is that it was not backbreaking labor by which he hoped to eke out a living. That does happen later in the text.
-
At this point, his “work” consists of “tending” the garden and delighting in God’s creation, which perhaps better fits a definition of “worship.”
Genesis 2:16-17 16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Proverbs 4:23 [Keep thy heart] with all diligence; for [out of it are the issues of life.]
-
Keep: (H5341) A verb meaning to guard, to keep, to watch, to observe, to preserve.
-
VERY similar to the word used in Genesis 2:15.
Proverbs 4:23 (AMP) 23Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. 24Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you. 25Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you. 26Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright. 27Turn not aside to the right hand or to the left; remove your foot from evil.
- Vigilance is defined as the action or state of keeping careful watch for possible danger or difficulties. That’s exactly what God calls us to do with our hearts.
Proverbs 4:23-27 (CJB) 24Above everything else, guard your heart; for it is the source of life’s consequences. 24Keep crooked speech out of your mouth, banish deceit from your lips. 25Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze on what lies in front of you. 26Level the path for your feet, let all your ways be properly prepared; 27then deviate neither right nor left; and keep your foot far from evil.
- Verse 23: Completely focus your mind on this, because life will result from it.
- Verse 23: The word KEEP could be translated here for “focus your mind”
- Issues: (H8444) boundaries, farthest borders, extremity of borders, territory, the OUTGOINGS, the exits or the ways of ESCAPE.

134 If you’re a sinner, raise up your eyes and look now. If you’ve been indifferent, if you’ve had little squabbles and little things, what difference does it make? You’re going to die one of these days. What day? Maybe today! You don’t know. An hour from now, you may be in hell, or you may be in Heaven. But you’ve got to choose now. If there’s anything in your life that isn’t right, you choose now, by faith.
135 You say, “Well, if I can just get even with her! If I can get even with him!” No matter what they done, choose Life. Choose Life.
136 For, Jesus said, “If from your heart you don’t forgive every person their transgression, neither does your Heavenly Father forgive you.” So just get that close. If there’s one ought in your heart against any person, sinner or a saint, you’re in danger of hell fire.

255 Do you love Him? [Congregation says, “Amen.”—Ed.] Listen, my Christian friend. If there is an ought in your heart against anyone, go to them now and be reconciled. Forget all the past. And if you’ve been having an up-and-down life, remember, something has come into that heart, something has moved into those thoughts. No matter who your enemy is, love him. Love him. No matter what’s happened, let it go. After all, you’re in a field with weeds, we realize that, but we must both grow together. We’ve got to come up together.
256 For, a good well cannot pour forth evil waters, neither can an evil well pour forth good waters. A tree cannot bring forth corrupt fruit and good fruit at the same time. So let’s either make the whole well clean, or make the whole well dirty; one or the other, see. For, it is dirty to begin with, so let’s clean out the wells this morning, and say, “Lord, pour in Your Spirit, and lead me, O God, lead me.”
Matthew 18:15 15 **Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
Luke 17:3-4 3Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. 4And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
The Days of His Presence

When we partner with the spirit of offense, it becomes a lens through which we see life. For example, if a husband says to his wife, “You look beautiful today”, what she might hear if she is under a spirit of offense is “You didn’t look beautiful yesterday”. We must be careful to guard our hearts from offense. If you have partnered with a spirit of offense, confess it to the Lord and be intentional to turn away from it. -Bill Johnson
As I spoke to you last weekend, one of the evils spirits that we will have to contend with in this “proving” time will be a seducing spirit. It is a strong spirit and we must be on guard - Pastor Steven L Shelley
In the last days, Jesus said there will also be a mysterious drowsiness that we must discern and overcome (Matt. 25:5). This phenomenon of spiritual slumber, of losing our God-seeking hunger, is something we must guard against. When this slumbering spirit approaches, it first dulls our perception. Soon, our zeal for the things of God diminishes. We still love the Lord, but our spiritual vision sits in the back seat as other less important endeavors set the course lives.

When the Word of God tells us to pursue love, one of the reasons is to guard our hearts from being available for the enemy to use as demonic portals.

No one can have an effective prayer life and have anything in his heart toward another. You can’t have revenge in your heart, and you can’t have hatred in your heart. You can’t have that old “get even” spirit and continue to prosper. And you’re not responsible for that other person’s life; you’re responsible for your life. In other words, another person’s heart and what is in it can’t hinder you, but what you have in your heart against another can and will hinder you. That means any grudge or ill will at all will hinder your faith. You have to guard your heart, You have to watch your inward man with all diligence (Prov. 4:23). Do not allow a root of bitterness, a bit of envy, or a bit of revenge to get into your heart. It will wreck your spiritual life. It will stall your prayer life. It will mar your faith. It will eventually shipwreck you.

And be sure to bring the breastplate, and the helmet, and the shield, and all those things.” Paul likening it to a soldier going to battle. And when the wiles of the enemy comes in, throw up your shield, go on out and meet it.

May every demon of darkness be driven back. May the power of the Holy Ghost come down in this building, the Angel of God appear visibly right here on the platform tonight, giving us such a shaking like we’ve never had before. Grant it, Lord. May many be healed tonight and saved. For we ask it in the Name of Thy Child, Jesus. Amen.

4 Use our armor. We’ve got a armor. God works with us and gives us the armor. And the whole armor is on the supernatural. See, see? Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, meekness, gentleness, patience is all in the supernatural. And if you let your faith loose to God’s Spirit, it make—brings your body in subjection to God’s redemptive blessing to you. And anything that Jesus died for, He’s setting at the right hand of the Father, tonight, making intercessions upon your confession. Whatever you confess that He’s done, and believe it, it’s your personal property. Every believer, every person that’s born again, has the right to any of the redemptive blessings.
When you get saved, Jesus just takes and hands you a checkbook to last you all through life’s journey, and His Name’s signed at the bottom of every one of them. Whatever we have need of, “you ask the Father in My Name, it’ll be done.” Just sign a check and send it up there. Are you afraid to sign one tonight? No, fill her out; send it up; it’s recognized. Yes, sir, it’s recognized. He’ll certainly bring it to pass.

149 The great hour of charge is at hand. Hallelujah! Soldier, with armors gleaming, colors streaming! Faith and doubt is setting yourself in array, in this tabernacle, this morning; doubt on one side, faith on the other. Soldiers, stand at your post of duty. Hallelujah! Our Captain, the Morning Star, leads on. He never goes back. He (never) don’t know the word retreat. He don’t have to retreat. Amen. Certainly.
150 The greatest battle ever fought, she is going on right in here now, yes, sir, between life and death, between sickness and health, between faith and doubt, oh, my, between liberty and bondage. 296 You’re disarmed. You surrender, you jellyfish. Put on the full armor of God. Amen. We’re in a battle. What God said is true. “Every man’s word is a lie.” See? But as soon as you…gets you to listen to one thing, that’s his tactic, you’re disarmed.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (CJB) 21God made this sinless man be a sin offering on our behalf, so that in union with him we might fully share in God’s righteousness.
1 Corinthians 1:30-31 30But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
1 Cornthians 1:30-31 (AMP) 30But it is from Him that you have your life in Christ Jesus, Whom God made our Wisdom from God, [revealed to us a knowledge of the divine plan of salvation previously hidden, manifesting itself as] our Righteousness [thus making us upright and putting us in right standing with God], and our Consecration [making us pure and holy], and our Redemption [providing our ransom from eternal penalty for sin]. 31So then, as it is written, Let him who boasts and proudly rejoices and glories, boast and proudly rejoice and glory in the Lord.

An Exposition Of The Seven Church Ages
Chapter 3 · The Ephesian Church Age
The true church of Jesus Christ, the bride, is likened to PURE gold. Her righteousness is HIS righteousness. Her attributes are HIS own glorious attributes. Her identity is found in Him. What He is, she is to reflect. What He has, she is to manifest. There is no fault in her. She is all glorious within and without. From beginning to ending she is the work of her Lord, and all His works are perfect. In fact in her is summed up and manifested the eternal wisdom and purpose of God. How can one fathom it? How can one understand it? Though we cannot do that, we can accept it by faith, for God hath spoken it.

282 He said, “He took your place, you were going there. He took your place, there He is.”
283 I said, “O Lamb of God! O Lamb of God, I come! I come! Nothing in my arms I bring, I have nothing to offer You, Lord, just simply to Thy cross I cling; that’s all I got.” And He took me in**. He clothed me like the father with the prodigal son, put a new garment upon me, the garment not of mine, His garment of His righteousness He put upon me; and a wedding ring upon my finger, that I’ll be with the Bride that day. Now the fatted calf has been killed,** and we’re rejoicing because I was once dead and now I’m alive, I was once lost and now I’m found…
Romans 3:19-24 19Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Romans 3:19-24 (AMP) 19Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that [the murmurs and excuses of] every mouth may be hushed and all the world may be held accountable to God. 20For no person will be justified (made righteous, acquitted, and judged acceptable) in His sight by observing the works prescribed by the Law. For [the real function of] the Law is to make men recognize and be conscious of sin [not mere perception, but an acquaintance with sin which works toward repentance, faith, and holy character]. 21But now the righteousness of God has been revealed independently and altogether apart from the Law, although actually it is attested by the Law and the Prophets, 22Namely, the righteousness of God which comes by believing with personal trust and confident reliance on Jesus Christ (the Messiah). [And it is meant] for all who believe. For there is no distinction, 23Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives. 24[All] are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus,
Romans 3:19 (CJB) Moreover, we know that whatever the Torah says, it says to those living within the framework of the Torah; in order that every mouth may be stopped and the whole world be shown to deserve God’s adverse judgment. 20For in his sight no one alive will be considered** righteous on the ground of legalistic observance of Torah commands, because what Torah really does is show people how sinful they are.
Romans 3:21-24 (CJB) 21But now, quite apart from Torah, God’s way of making people righteous in his sight has been made clear — although the Torah and the Prophets give their witness to it as well — 22and it is a righteousness that comes from God, through the faithfulness of Yeshua the Messiah, to all who continue trusting. For it makes no difference whether one is a Jew or a Gentile, 23since all have sinned and come short of earning God’s praise. 24By God’s grace, without earning it, all are granted the status of being considered righteous before him, through the act redeeming us from our enslavement to sin that was accomplished by the Messiah Yeshua.
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Proverbs 23:7 (AMP) For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. As one who reckons, he says to you, eat and drink, yet his heart is not with you [but is grudging the cost].

- (H8167) A verb possibly meaning to cleave, to divide, but it took on the meaning of to calculate, to estimate, to set a price on. doorkeeper, porter.
Luke 6:45 45A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Luke 6:45 (AMP) 45The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks.
Romans 10:10 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
James 1:26 (AMP) 26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious [scrupulously observant of the rituals of his faith], and does not control his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless (futile, barren).

174 Not you just got wider shoulders; that don’t mean nothing about it. But you’re wider in here, see, not across here. In here, here is where you’re supposed to spread out, get bigger, in your heart, on the inside. When Christ comes into the heart, then He comes into the mouth, then He comes into the eyes. He comes into the mind.
175 He comes into the mouth. He makes you talk different. You don’t talk like you used to. Christ got in your mouth. Done growed now from your heart, your love you had for Him, till you can bridle your tongue. Brother, that’s a great thing.
176 Then, the next thing you know, it grows into your eyes. The next thing you know, you find out, that old lustful things you used to look at, you’ll turn your head. You’re growing.
177 Then, the first thing you know, you still turn your head, but you’re thinking. See? After a while, it grows into your mind; you don’t even think about it no more. 349 And you people with these saw-blade tempers, that’s always spouting off in the mouth at somebody, can’t put up, and things like that. Be careful. You’re guilty if you speak a word against your brother that’s not right, not just, go around and tear down it. You don’t have to stick a knife in a man’s back to kill him. You can break his character and kill him, kill his influence. Speak against your pastor here, say something bad about him, you just might as well as shot him. Told something that wasn’t right about him, well, it’ll kill his influence with the people and things like that, and you’re guilty of it. What Jesus said.

22 Oh, it’s too bad that the church today doesn’t walk in the Spirit like that more than we do. For it’s that kind of a time that when God comes to you. You know, it was on the road to Emmaus when Cleopas and his friend was speaking, and talking, and thinking about Jesus, that He walked out of the bushes by the side of them and walked with them. It’s while we are thinking upon Him…The trouble with the world today, we’re thinking about everything else but Him. Then we wonder why we don’t get blessings.
It was just a few weeks ago, about three weeks ago, when I set down by some sycamore trees, as I was telling you, and begin to think. It was there for the first time that He came and declared the new ministry to me. Think on Him. “Draw nigh unto Me, and I’ll draw nigh unto you,” saith the Lord. Think upon Him.
David spoke that he was—write His commandments upon the bed post and meditate on them day and night. That’s what the church ought to do, would keep your heart tuned in with God day and night, for it’s then’s when He appears.
Solomon said, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Begin to think that you’re one of His children, that He saved you, and He’s good to you, and you love Him, and He loves you. Don’t just wait till you go to church, or some convenient hour; just keep Him on your mind all the time.

67 And Mrs. Lot stands for a memorial. And when God give her her last message of grace, when He sent those Angels down there and told them that within a few hours that Sodom and Gomorrah was going to be burned, yet, she could not stand the thought of giving up her social life, to come out into a desert, and to live like Sarah had lived out there in the desert, and have to wear common, plain clothes of the woman of the plain. She wanted to be in luxury. Her husband had become a great man in the city. He sit in the gate, as a judge or as a mayor of the city. And she wanted these luxuries. And she couldn’t stand the thought of having to give those things up. And as she went with her husband, out of the city, she kept looking back, weeping and grieving because she had to give it up, to separate herself from that type of death.
68 Jesus said, “He that puts his hand to the plow, and even turns to look back, is not worthy of the plowing.” What type of people should we be? He that puts his hand to the plow, and even don’t—don’t turn back, but just turn to look back, is not even worthy of the plowing. Oh, we should keep our eyes and hearts single. No matter what the other people do, what the church does, what the neighbor does, what anyone else does, keep your heart centered on Calvary. Don’t even stop to look back. We’ve got no time to look back.

We’re taught in mythicals, perhaps, I wouldn’t say it would be correctly historical; he died with hemorrhages in his lungs. All right. When he died, anyhow, they taken him out, buried him. They embalmed his body, put him in the grave. In order then of burying him, like there is a lot in the Orients today, they dig a hole, and just lay a rock over the top of it where they bury their dead.

“Spend your wrath on Satan, who is your chief enemy. Men are only his puppets. They may be won to Christ’s side and so become your friends at last. Anselm explains it in the following manner: “When the enemy comes riding up in battle, the valiant soldier is not angry with the horse, but with a horseman. He works to kill the rider so that he may possess the horse for his own use. Thus, must we do with the wicked. We are not to bend our wrath against them, but against satan who rides them and spurs them on. Let us pray fervently as Christ did on the cross, that the devil will be dismounted and these miserable souls delivered from him.
