Exodus 16:2-7 (2) And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: (3) And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger. (4) Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. (5) And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. (6) And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt: (7) And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

  • God’s abundant provisions come with a responsibility for good stewardship …We must learn to follow God’s instructions carefully!!
  • Murmuring is a state of mind that calls out for more testings!!

Exodus 17:1-8 (1) And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there__was no water for the people to drink. (2) Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD? (3) And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? (4) And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me. (5) And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. (6) Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. (7) And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not? (8) Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

Numbers 20:2-13 (2) And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. (3) And the people chided with Moses, and spoke, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! (4) And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? (5) And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink. (6) And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them. (7) And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, (8) Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. (9) And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. (10) And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? (11) And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. (12) And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. (13) This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

34 The church has failed. See? Instead of bringing the people together as one body, it separated them out. Just like Moses, instead of speaking to the rock, he smote the rock (You see?), and it failed. So the church will never take the people over Jordan. That’s right.

But now, God has changed His order, and He’s sending back…You who mark my word, there’s great men on the road to this world. That’s right. There’s great powers on the road to this world. And it’ll be a people that’ll call out a people. Remember, “Come out of her, My people.” Is that right? Babylon, confusion that…And not the people now, not out of your churches, but come out of that confusion among you. You see? Come out; let’s serve God with one heart and one mind and one accord. Is that right? And then God will take His church over Jordan. That’s over death. Now, you believe that with all your heart.

1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

56 On up they come, into the smitten Rock. Notice when they come to the Rock, they had need. Now, Moses smote the Rock with the rod. That’s where we left last night. Smote the Rock with the rod, and the rod was God’s judgment rod. And he smote the Rock, and there was a cleft in the left side of the Rock. When the children of Israel got hungry, they went there. And a beehive, a bee had got in there and had made a hive, and they got honey out of the Rock. Everything they had need of was in the Rock. The Rock followed the church, and the Rock was Christ Jesus. When they were thirsty, they drank from the Rock. When they were hungry, they ate from the Rock. Wherever they went, the Rock followed them. And the Rock’s still following the church! Christ is the Rock that was in the wilderness. Notice now, then, that same Rock!

173 But when he glorified himself down there, instead of God, before that Rock; when God told him, said, “Go, speak to the Rock. Don’t smite It. Speak to It.” (The Rock was only smitten once.)

174 And Moses got his temper all up, and run down there and smote the Rock. It didn’t bring water. He smote It again, It brought water. Said, “You rebels, must we fetch you water out of this Rock?” Like that, and brought forth the waters, ‘cause God had to listen to that prophet because He had endued him with that power. And that broke the whole program of God’s Bible.

175 Christ was smitten once. We speak to the Rock now, and It brings forth Its water, see. It’s already been smitten. Just speak to It, and It brings forth Its water.

8 Now, let’s just get right down to our hearts now. And I want to tell you something, and we want to talk just for a few moments, just heart to heart.

Now, I realize, and you realize too, and ministers, that a man can take a Divine gift, send his soul to hell with it. You know that? A gift from God… Now, I don’t mean just something that you imagine. I mean if God has really given something, and give it to your charge, you’ve got to use that with the wisdom of God.

35 Now, notice. Now, Moses smote the Rock, second time, representing that Christ should come to the earth and die again. Now, he had power to bring forth the Water out of the Rock, whether it was God’s will or not. Did you know that? Everybody will admit that it wasn’t God’s will. But Moses done it anyhow. He had power. God entrusted him to be a prophet. And He give him those powers to do that. And He found out that His servant failed Him, and he glorified himself in the stead of God. And then what happened? God dealt with Moses then. Didn’t He? Not with the children, with Moses.

The Holy Spirit is given to a man, and gifts are given to a man; but you have to watch what you’re doing with those Divine gifts.

31 Looky here. The organized church was Moses, the law-giver. And the law-giver, Moses, glorified himself in the stead of God, and wasn’t permitted to take the children over Jordan. And the church today is glorifying themselves: “I belong to the Assemblies”; “I belong to the Church of God”; “I belong to this, that or the other.” What are you anyhow? That’s right. It’s the truth. Now, there’s good men in every one of them. We are brethren; break down that thing. But look. A man that’d been with them all along, Joshua, a type of the signs and wonders, he was the one who was permitted, not the church group, not the organization, but Joshua was pulled out and took the children of Israel across Jordan. That’s right. Amen.

Has The Lord Spoken Only To Moses?

55 How many knows that you can—you could send your soul to hell with a Divine gift? Sure, you can. You have to watch what you’re doing. How many believe Moses was God’s prophet? Say, “Amen.” He was God’s prophet, but do you know what he done? God told him to go down there and speak to the rock. The rock was already smitten. Is that right? Instead of Moses doing what God told him to do, he went down and smote the rock again. Is that right? Well, that absolutely broke the entire Scripture right in two, right there. Christ wasn’t smitten twice. He was smitten once. We just speak to Him from now on. Is that right?

212 Notice, if Satan fails here, then he’ll try his second scheme on getting you to—to disbelieve the Word, he’ll…and—and go to the seminary. He’ll try the next, a scheme. Now here is where you want to be real careful, and just sit just for another five minutes on this part, if you will. Then he makes you a supernatural offer. I’m going to come back to all this, just before closing. He makes… See, if he can’t tempt you away from the Word, “No, I’m going to stay with the Word,” then he’ll give you a supernatural offer.

213 He said, “I’ll tell you what. You get up here and dive off the temple, and bring back up. See, show the people that You can do something supernatural.”

214 Boy, he got them there. Now watch this, this is it. Watch when you get to the end, where this temptation come. Maybe he might let some of you speak in tongues, think you got It. See? Or he might even let you prophesy, though it not be with the Word. I’ve seen people stand up and prophesy, was as contrary to the Word as the East is from the West. See? It’s the Word that you live by. Them supernatural gifts, Satan can just hand them out by handfuls. Certainly. That don’t mean one thing.

Speak To The Rock And It Shall Give Forth His Water

41 Let’s look at some people that spoke to the Rock. Let’s find out what taken place. The first man ever spoke to a Rock was a man that got tied up in some theology. He made hisself a set of fig leaves, Adam. He thought, “That’ll do just as good as anything.” But when he come face to face with God, he found out he was naked. What did he do? He spoke to the Rock, and the Rock made a way of escape for him, the Rock that was in Eden.

There was Noah, another man who had preached, and the people ignored and laughed at him. One day he spoke to the Rock, and the Rock took him in the ark, and tucked him away in His arms, and rode him above the storm, and drowned the persecuting world. Yes, sir, Noah…

42 There was a man named Daniel once who was in the lions’ den. He went out into Babylon, and he said in himself that he was not going to defile himself with the king’s meat. He wasn’t going to have anything to do with the world, though he had to live among them people. But he wasn’t going to defile himself; he purposed in his heart he wasn’t. And one day the king throwed him into the lion’s pit because he was walking in the line of duty; but he spoke to the Rock, and that Pillar of Fire come down and kept the lions off of him all night long because he spoke to the Rock before he went to the pit.

There was the Hebrew children who wouldn’t bow down to the images of King Nebuchadnezzar, and they throwed them into the fiery furnace, and they spoke to the Rock and the fourth Man was standing in the fiery furnace there, the Rock of Ages. Hallelujah. David said, “If I make my bed in hell, He will be there. If I take wings of the morning and fly away…”

43 Notice Hagar. She’d been put out of her home. She had a little nursing boy, Ishmael. She went out into the desert, no place to go, the water had run out, what could she do? She’d been raised in a home that was acquainted with the Rock, and what did she do? She didn’t want to see the baby die, so she took the little fellow, and laid him under a tree, and went off a bow shot, and fell down on her knees, and she spoke to the Rock, and the Rock poured forth His waters, and that baby was saved. And to this day, Barsheba still stands there, that fountain, that I…, “God Who has seen me.” She spoke to the Rock for her dying baby. Can you speak to the Rock tonight? Are you on speaking terms with Him? Do you know anything about Him?

44 Joshua, he just walk, come over Jordan after he’d made that great decision; he stilled the people, said, “We’re able to take it.”

God said, “Joshua, you’re the one who knows all about it. I’ll just let you lead the children from now on.” He got over to his first campaign; he got up against Jericho wall; he walked around it, and said, “Now, how am I going to get over it? How am I going to ascend them walls? They got all those rocks and things laying up there, their bows and things ready to shoot, and here we are out here mostly unarmed, just what we picked up from the spoils across our journey. And there we are. How am I going to do it?” And after while he saw a Man standing with His sword drawed. He said, “Who are You? Are you our enemy? Are you one of us?”

He said, “Nay, I am the Captain of the host of the LORD.” And Joshua spoke to the Rock. And a shout went out, and the walls fell down, ‘cause he spoke to the Rock.

45 Several hundred years later from then, there was an old blind beggar setting on some of those stones that had fell from that wall. Oh, my. The speaking of the Rock had done been explained out of the church; there was no such a thing. But he was setting there blind, thinking about it on that road when he knowed that Elisha and Elijah came down that same road, arm in arm, going to the Jordan. Just beyond there Joshua had spoke to this great Captain of the host of the Lord. He said, “Oh, if I would’ve lived in that day I would’ve spoke to Him too.”

And about that time a noise begin to come. You know, usually where God’s at there’s a lot of noise. I don’t know why it is, but there’s a lot of noise wherever God come. Here come that same Captain of the host of the Lord. People tried to get him to shut up, but he spoke to the Rock, and the Rock gave him back his sight. He…They tried to make him shut up. They tried to hold his peace, setting there shivering, his little old bare legs laying there in that sun and his little old withered arms and—and his old ragged coat; but he throwed that coat one side to the other and took off. But why? He was ready to speak to the Rock, and the Rock gave him back his sight. Hallelujah. That’s a warning to every blind man in here tonight; whether you’re spiritually blind or physically blind, speak to the Rock. He’s a sight giving Rock. Amen. Speak to the Rock. Yes, sir. The blind man…

46 There was a woman one time, went out to the well to get some water. She was in a bad shape; she was a prostitute. She seen a Man setting over there against the wall, and she didn’t know Who He was. After while He said, “Woman, give me a drink.” He went to talking to her until He found out what her trouble was. He said, “Go, get your husband.”

She said, “I have none.”

Why, He said, “That’s true; you’ve had five; and the one you’re living with now is not your husband.”

She said, “Sir, I perceive that Thou art a prophet. We know that there’s a Rock coming someday, called the Messiah, and He will do this.”

He said, “I’m He that speaks to you.” I can see her drop that waterpot, her big pretty eyes shine; into the city she went knowing that she had spoke to the Rock. Hallelujah. And she’d found water she didn’t come to that well to draw. Oh, she’d spoke to the Rock.

47 The little Martha, one time her brother was dead, and was buried, four days out in the grave, rotten already, skin worms eating in his body. And she heard there was something in the city, that Jesus had come. She went out there where He was at; she fell down before Him, and she said, “Lord, if You would’ve been here, my brother would not have died. But even now, Lord, whatever You ask God, God will give it to you.”

He said, “Thy brother shall rise again.” Why? She spoke to the Rock, (Amen.) and It brought forth death out of corruption, and rebuked death and brought life. Where a man had been dead four days, stood on his feet, and lived again because she spake to the Rock.

The disciples one night was out on the sea. All hopes was gone, and what happened? They seen something, looked like a spirit coming to them. And they found out It was the Rock, and they spoke to the Rock. New hopes come in, and away they went. And the whole thing was spared because they spoke to the Rock.

The Spoken Word Is The Original Seed

358 Notice what harmony! Jesus never did anything until seen of the Father, or, the Father showed Him first. Harmony between God and Christ, see, John 5:19. So will the Bride, and He shows Her His Word of Life. He shows Her, and She receives It. She never doubts It. Nothing can harm Her, not even death. For if the Seed be planted, the water will raise It up again. (Amen. Then I got a great big “Hallelujah!”) Here is the secret. The Word is in the Bride, and the mind of Christ, to know what He wants done with the Word. And She does it in His Name. She has THUS SAITH THE LORD. Then It is germitized, so the Holy Spirit waters It until It is grown and serves Its purpose.

359 They do only His will. (Amen. I’ll believe that.) No one can persuade them different. They have THUS SAITH THE LORD or they keep still. Then they will do the works of God, for It is Himself in them continuing His Word to fulfill, as He did complete in His days. All things, when He was here, He did not complete all when He was here, for it was not time yet.

An Exposition Of The Seven Church Ages

Chapter 5 · The Pergamean Church Age

The members of the virgin bride will love Him, and they will have His potentials, for He is their head, and all power belongs to Him. They are subject to Him as the members of our bodies are subject to our heads.

Notice the harmony of the Father and the Son. Jesus never did anything until it was first showed Him by the Father. John 5:19. This harmony is now to exist between the Groom and His bride. He shows her His Word of life. She receives it. She never doubts it. Therefore, nothing can harm her, not even death. For if the seed be planted, the water will raise it up again. Here is the secret of this. The Word is in the bride (as it was in Mary). The bride has the mind of Christ for she knows what He wants done with the Word. She performs the command of the Word in His name for she has “thus saith the Lord.” Then the Word is quickened by the Spirit and it comes to pass. Like a seed that is planted and watered, it comes to full harvest, serving its purpose.

Those in the bride do only His will. No one can make them do otherwise. They have “thus saith the Lord” or they keep still. They know that it has to be God in them doing the works, fulfilling His own Word. He did not complete all His work while in His earthly ministry so now He works in and through the bride. She knows that, for it was not yet time for Him to do certain things that He must now do. But He will now fulfill through the bride that work which He left for this specific time.
