2 Samuel 6:13-16 13And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings. 14And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. 15So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. 16And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

  • Might: (Strongs #5797) might, strength
  • Dancing: (Strongs #37679), whirl about; dance, move around, then surround, enclose, recur, like turning mill.
  • Shouting: (Strongs #8643), a shout or blast of war, alarm, or joy: battle cry.
  • Leaping: (Strongs #6339), to bound, to be supple or agile: nimble

2 Samuel 6:9-10 9And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me? 10So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.

2 Samuel 6:14 (CJB ) 14Then David danced and spun around with abandon before ADONAI, wearing a linen ritual vest.

2 Samuel 6:14 (NLT) 14And David danced before the Lord with all his might, WEARING A PRIESTLY TUNIC

1 Chronicles 15:27-28 27And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an ephod of linen. 28Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.

1 Samuel 2:18 18But Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

35 …What a horrible curse pride is. Oh, you’re too good. “Sure, we go to a church that knows better than that. We don’t believe in divine healing. Ah, we have nothing to do with that.” Pharisee, Jesus is in your town. Amen. Entertain Him; love Him; embrace Him; and love Him.

50 There’s another little door called pride. Oh, what a horrible little black devils is all pinned up in that heart of pride, thinking you’re better than somebody else. “Well, I wouldn’t send my children over there. They don’t dress right. The people who goes there isn’t in my class.”

51 If Christ is Lord in your heart, we’re all one class because of one Spirit. We’re all baptized into one Body. Pride, feels just a little…A little complex you have. Oh, you don’t want Jesus to touch that, because it would degrade your social standing in the community. I’d rather degrade my social standing in the community, than to rub my name off of the Lamb’s Book of Life. But they won’t let Him in. That little pride holds Him out.

30 … The same thing was thought when Jesus was borned in Bethlehem. They never sang hosannas when the King was born, but the Angels sung it, not the kings and potentates, but the shepherds on the hillsides. He wasn’t borned in a fine decorated hospital room with pink dressings hanging down. He was borned in a stinking manger. How could they ever go to hear a Man like that, no matter what He done. You see what pride and selfishness does? It shuts you out from the Kingdom of God. I wonder sometime, as we think, what will happen to this generation.

2 Samuel 6:20-23 20Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! 21And David said unto Michal, it was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord. 22And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken, of, of them shall I be had in honor. 23Therefore, Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

24 Now, we hear so much today about, “We are free. Oh, we live in a beautiful America. We are free.” Oh, the air’s full of it. Books are wrote of it, thousands of them. But you are a million miles from being free. You’re not free. Don’t you be deceived by that. America is one of the greatest deceived nations, and in more bondage than any place I know of. They’re worse in bondage than communism could put them in. Communism can only hurt the body; they can only put the body in bondage. But when the devil comes in, he puts the soul in bondage.

And man is a slave. America is a bunch of slaves. You may be a slave to pride. You might walk up and down the streets and go through every store and every fashion that you can see on television, and go from store to store trying to buy something. You become a slave to it. You become a slave to your dressing. You can become a slave to your money. That’s the only thing that you think of is to make money, grab, and put it up here. If you do that, you’re a slave.

32 What ought all our conduct to be? Not like the world, but we should act like sons and daughters of God, conduct ourselves like King’s children, not like slaves of fashions, and slaves of passion, and slaves of pride. And we—we should be sons and daughters of God, and act like it, and conduct ourselves that way. Let our conversations and everything be seasoned with God’s Spirit…

Ecclesiastes 3:4 There is a time to morn and a time to dance.

2 Samuel 6:21-22 It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the LORD. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.

Isaiah 61:10 10I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness, as a groom wears a priestly headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

76 David danced before the Lord, when the Ark was brought back to Its resting place. Amen. When David saw the Word, as It was then with the tables of stone, brought back to Its right place, David rejoiced and danced in the Spirit, around and around and around. Why? He saw the Word back in Its place. Amen.

77 What the World needs, is not out of some seminary, some theological mix up; but an old-fashioned, God-sent preacher behind the pulpit, with the Word, seeing God vindicate It, proof.

78 Then David said, “Glory to God, this is It!” And around and around and around and around. His little stuck-up wife set up there, being the king’s daughter, said, “Why, he—he—he embarrasses me.”

79 And David said, “You don’t like that? Watch this!” And around and around he went again. Yes! Oh, my, what a time he had!

80 You know, God looked down out of Heaven, said, “David, you’re a man after My Own heart.” See? See? Why? He had done lost all pride, he had done lost all of his. Yet he was married to a king’s daughter, but that wasn’t even considered then. He knowed that he was acquainted with the Possessor of Heavens and earth, and here was the Word of God coming right back among them again, and David was so happy he danced. He just danced as hard as he could.

81 Miriam, she grabbed the tambourine and went down the bank, dancing on the other side. After she had come through the Red Sea and seen her enemies drowned, then she could dance in the Spirit. When she seen the enemies that had tormented her, dead, then she danced in the Spirit. That’s right. Now, see, after! After the battle’s won, then the glory of God comes down.

Pardon

68 I like this kind of singing. When I was back there praying for some of the people, a few moments ago, that had been brought in. And this not being a prayer service; just to speak. I was in there. And I could hear the songs, the clapping of their hands. And we wonder…And some of them even, I seen them, run up-and-down the floor, what they call “dancing in the Spirit.”

69 At first time, I was a critic of that, when I seen the Pentecostal people dancing in the Spirit. And I thought, “What is this? It must be a bunch of nonsense.” Then I got to reading the Bible, and I found out, that, when dancing in the Spirit. The devil copied it and put them out here with rock-and-roll and stuff, but the real genuine dance come from God. That’s exactly. And, always, a dance was victory.

70 When David slew Goliath, and this little ruddy-looking boy come dragging the head of this giant into the city, the people met him, dancing. They had the victory. When Moses crossed the Red Sea, by the power of God, and took the children of Israel on the other side, Miriam picked up a tambourine, and all the daughters of Israel, and up-and-down the bank they went, beating the tambourine and dancing in the Spirit. If that isn’t an old-fashion Pentecostal meeting, I never seen one in my life. [The trouble was, with me, I didn’t have enough victory. But when you finally get that victory, and the token of the Blood of Jesus Christ comes upon you.]{.mark}

71 I remember David, the great psalmist of the Bible. When he had done something, that, this great thing, he was given Saul’s daughter. And she was kind of a self-starched, self-styled, so-called believer. And the ark had been away from God for a long time, the visible Presence of God, the Pillar of Fire hanging over this ark. The Philistines had come in and took it out under Saul’s reign. And one day, when David seen the ark coming back to the house of God, David run out before the ark, and he danced before the Lord, singing the praises of God. And Saul’s daughter seemed to be very much embarrassed at that man’s action. Her husband, her young, handsome husband had cut up and misbehave himself in her presence, the king’s daughter. And David said, so much, “If you don’t like that, watch this a little while.” And around, and around, and around the ark he went again, dancing in the Spirit. And she was embarrassed. And God cursed that woman with a curse.

72 Oh, the victory through the Blood of Jesus Christ, the token of the resurrection of Christ, His life lives within His Church. There is no other way of fellowship, under, but under that Blood. Our denominations will separate us, and one say, “That’s nonsense.” And one say this, that, or the other.

73 Pentecost was our pattern. No one will have to say but what… or can say but what that the Church was inaugurated on the Day of Pentecost. And the same Spirit that come upon them on that day, every time without fail, in the Bible, when the Holy Ghost came upon the people, [they acted the same way. ]

74 Let me say this, that in the heathen lands where I’ve had the place, the privilege of traveling and seeing blanket natives of the islands and in the Hottentots, and see them stand there where you have to speak through an interpreter, never heard the Name of Jesus Christ in their life. But tell them the Story, and ask them to raise up their hands and receive God, they do the same thing you do right here when you receive the Holy Ghost. Shows that it’s a universal thing. It’s the power of Almighty God, the display of His token upon His children, whether they’re red, black, white, or whatever they might be. It’s the only place that fellowship is given.

3 … I never was at a dance in my life. But I heard only a—a holy dance one time in church. I never forget that. When we was still a Baptist church, I would always criticize, kinda, in my heart. I wouldn’t say it out loud, because I—I’d be afraid to do that. Anything that God does… I always kinda thought it was kinda strange to see, when I seen, first got acquainted with the Pentecostal people, see them dance, you know, dance around. I thought, “Now, you know, that ain’t in the Bible. What—what are they dancing about?” And then one night I was teaching from a chart on Daniel and Revelations. It was New Year’s night. I was going to teach on the chart until midnight. It wasn’t a chart, like a blackboard, I was teaching. And there was some Pentecostal people had come from Louisville. They had a—oh, some sisters. A sister pastored a church over there and she had a… They had washboards, and thimbles, and—and all kinds of little things to make rackets with, and—and they all got harmonizing some way. I don’t know what it was, and they…

And she started playing the piano, and all these girls up there got to hitting with these thimbles on washboards and things. And—and they—they got they was playing that song, There’s going to be a meeting in the air, In the sweet by and by, Or some… Well, that little girl that was playing, little lady pastor, she just turned white, oh, just like a chalk. And she just begin to playing it in such way, I don’t, I never seen anything play like it in my life. And I thought, “Now, what’s that?” And then, one on the washboard, she got to doing the same thing. Then here, two or three got up. And a little blond head got to dancing right in the floor. I thought, “Oh, my.” Right up and down the floor as hard as she could go, just a dancing away, like that, little old girl, about sixteen, eighteen years old. I was just a young fellow myself. And I… “Now, isn’t that something? Right here in my church. How I’ll ever live that down? See?” And watching her like that, and I thought, “What do they do that for? Why do they have to do that? Why couldn’t they just played their music and went on and let it alone like that?” I thought, “Well, that’s terrible.”

4 I got to thinking, “Now, in the Bible is there such a thing as dancing?” And I remembered that David danced around the ark, when he saw the ark coming. See? He danced before the Lord. And the Lord said, “He’s a man after my own heart.” I thought, “Well, now, that’s… He… What did he dance for?” Well, they had a victory. And Miriam when they crossed over the Red Sea, Moses sang in the Spirit, and Miriam took a tambourine and begin to beat it, and they went down along the bank, all the daughters of Israel, dancing in the Spirit. See? And I seen that dancing was when they had victory. I thought—got to thinking, [“Well, maybe, I haven’t got victory enough.”] See? I got thinking about it. And you know, after while I got to patting my foot, and before I knowed it I was out there dancing with that girl, out there in that aisle.

5 Oh, I was marked then. I—I could just see the expression on those people’s face yet, seeing their pastor on the floor with this—that little girl dancing around. Here I was right out there too. I never was on a dance floor in my life. And the… But I’d have to take it back and say, “It was on that one.” But that was a church floor. So when we… You know, all the devil’s got, he—he—he copied it after some real thing that God’s got. That’s right. It’s just exactly. The devil cannot create. He’s just a perverter of what’s been created. You see? So he cannot create; he’s not a creator; he’s a perverter.

Psalms 16:8-11 8I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. 10For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 11Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

99 Let’s just take just a moment. Let’s think about David. He—he got all stimulated, too. He said, “My cup is running over.” I believe he really had a—a great event in his life. What, what caused him to do that? When he was in the Spirit…For, he was a prophet. We know he was. The Bible said so. Prophet David, now, for he was a prophet, and he was in the Spirit, and he seen the resurrection. If you’d like to read it, it’s in Psalm 16:8 to 11. He said, “Moreover my flesh was made glad. My! I—I rest in hope, because You’ll not leave my soul in hell; neither will You suffer Your Holy One to see corruption.” And I tell you, his cup got to running over, ‘cause he seen. No matter what it was; oh, he seen the resurrection, and he was really…and his cup run over.

100 Again, David had another cup running over, in Second Samuel, (being that you got your pencils out), Second Samuel 6:14. There had been a dry spell.

101 They had took the ark. The enemy had come in and got the ark of the Lord, and they had took it down and set it up before Dagon, and Dagon fell on his face. And took it to another city, and plagues broke out. It was…That was the hottest thing they ever had on their hands, down there. And they couldn’t get rid of it, ‘cause it was out of its place.

102 Now, when they put it on the ox cart, and started back. And when David saw the ark coming, you know what he did? He—he got so full, and his cup got to running over; the stimulation! [When he seen the Word being revealed back into Israel again,] he danced in the Spirit, all around, around, around, around, around, like that. Yeah. His cup got to running over, you see. Why? He saw the Word returning.

103 And I think that would make anybody get a little stimulated when they see, after all these years; and then the true Word, by the promise that it would be, being brought forth and vindicated. What a time! What a time!

48 …See where it started in Genesis. Here they are fundamental, ritualistic, beautiful, big churches, orthodox people, my, in their beliefs, sure. But there’s no signs following. Jesus said, “These signs will follow them.” It’s come from Genesis and going in to Revelations, the same thing. I’m so glad that I can say I’m one of them, by the grace of God. Wouldn’t swap it for nothing in the world. Oh, sure, they call me this, that, or the other. That don’t make any difference what they call me. God calls me His son. Amen. That’s the main thing.

I seen that little old girl, that time, David’s wife, that hid behind her fan, and fanning like that, and she thought David, her sweetheart, was the cutest little thing. But when the ark come in, and David saw it, a revival was in session. Little old David went down there and danced around the ark, as hard as he could go. “Why,” she said, “you embarrass me. My, well, I’ll have the general council to put you out. Why, you embarrass me.”

He said, “If you don’t like that…?… watch this.” And down he went and around and around and around and around on the ark he went, rejoicing, happy, shouting, praising God, and rejoicing. Hallelujah. Said, “If you don’t like that, watch this.”

God looked down out the heaven, He said, “David, you’re a man after My own heart.” Hallelujah. So it don’t make any difference what the world says; it’s what God says. Amen.

16 Now, of everything that God has, the devil has a counterfeit. You go and whatever you want to do… You find like these old dances; that’s of the devil; but God has a holy dance for the people.

The Bible said so. I was one of the greatest critics on that you ever seen, till God told me just what to do. I find out that Miriam danced in the Spirit. David danced when he had victory. And oh, many time—it… All of it was through—was victory. It was dancing, holy dancing.

1 Chronicles 16:29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
