How Can I Overcome?
August 25, 1963 · Jeffersonville, Indiana
104Look. Temptation was for Him. You know that? The Bible said, “He was tempted in all points like we are, yet without sin.” He was tempted by—by drinking. He was tempted by women. He was tempted by everything that could be tempted by. He was tempted by everything that we are. He was a Man, and yet you couldn’t put a mark on Him. Yes, sir.
105Overcome means “to recognize the devil in every one of his tricks.” Lot of people says, “There is no devil. It’s just a thought.” Don’t you believe that. There’s a real devil. He’s just as real as you are or anybody. A real devil, and you must recognize him real. You must know he’s a devil. Then, the same time that you—you recognize him, and know that he’s a devil and he’s against you, then, to overcome, you must recognize that the God in you is greater and mightier than he is, that the One that’s in you has already overcome him. And, by His grace, you are more than a match for him. Amen. There’s real overcoming, when you recognize.
What Is The Holy Ghost?
December 16, 1959 · Jeffersonville, Indiana
134The Body of Christ is one Spirit, where every member, from Pentecost to this time, drinks of the same new Wine, the same Holy Ghost, bringing forth the same results. How do we do it? “By one Spirit.”
It’s God’s open door, the Holy Spirit. What is It? It’s God’s open door. It’s a sign. It’s a seal. It’s a Comforter. It’s an Advocate. It’s an assurance. It’s rest. It’s peace. It’s goodness. It’s healing. It’s Life. It’s—It’s God’s open door to all these things. It’s God’s open door to Christ, which has…
God proved that He raised up Jesus from the dead, and those that are dead in Christ will God bring with Him at the resurrection. “Grieve not the Holy Spirit whereby you are sealed into Christ until the day of your redemption.” Whew! How many believes it? [Congregation says, “Amen.”—Ed.]
Hebrews, Chapter Two #2
August 25, 1957 · Jeffersonville, Indiana
172Man always feared death. Christ became sin, made low, to take death upon Himself. And He’s not ashamed to be called our “Brother,” for He was tempted just like we are tempted. And He can make the…be the right kind of an intercessor, ’cause He stood the same kind of a temptation that you stand. And He took your place, knowing that you couldn’t take it yourself.
173So, don’t you see, brother, sister? The whole thing is grace. All of it is grace. It’s not what you do, anyhow. It’s what He’s already done for you. Now, you can’t do one thing to merit your salvation. Your salvation is a gift. Christ became sin, that you might become righteous. And He’s the right kind of a Chief Captain for our salvation, because He suffered just like we suffered. He’s been tempted just like we’re tempted. And He’s not ashamed to be called “our Brother,” because He knows what we go through with. Oh, blessed be His Name! For verily he took not on him the form of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
174Oh, my! He didn’t become an Angel. He become the Seed of Abraham. “And we, being dead in Christ, take on Abraham’s Seed, and are heirs according to the promise.” See? He never took on the form of an Angel. He never become an Angel. He become a Man. He become the Seed of Abraham, and took the sting of death in His Own flesh, to reconcile us back to God, and now sets there for an Intercessor. My, how could we reject It, friend?
What is the Holy Ghost?

61What is the Holy Ghost? It’s an Advocate. What does a…What is an Advocator? What does It do? Make an advocate. It has mercy. It, It stands in your place. It, It does things that you can’t do. It, It’s—It’s a propitiation for your sins. It’s your righteousness. It’s your healing. It’s your Life. It’s your resurrection. It’s all that God has for you. He’s an Advocate.
62It—It makes intercession for our ignorance. Sometimes when the…we got the Holy Ghost, we ignorantly stagger into something. The Holy Spirit is there to make advocate for us. He is our Advocator. He stands our…He’s our Attorney. He stands there and pleads for us. We don’t plead for ourself, because the Holy Ghost in us pleads for us. The Holy Spirit giving utterance, sometimes with words you can’t understand, and He makes intercessions for us. That’s what the Holy Ghost is.
63When I walk into anything, I—I walk like a little kid; you walk like a little fellow. We, we’re walking in a dark world full of enemies, full of sin, full of traps, full of everything. You say, “Oh, I’m afraid. I’m afraid to take Christian life. I, I’m afraid to do this. I’m afraid I’ll do this.” Don’t be afraid. We have an Advocate. Amen. Oh, He stands by us. He’s in us, and He makes intercessions for us. The Holy Spirit, constantly, constantly making an advocate for us, all the time. He is our Advocator. Oh, how we thank God for that!
64A seal, a sign, the Spirit of Life, the God of Heaven, the Comforter, the Life, the Advocate. What is He? Oh, my! We could go on for hours with it.
65Promised to us in the last days! This Advocate, seal, promise, everything that we have talked about Him tonight, with ten thousand times more, It was made a promise to us in the last day. They didn’t have It in that day. They just had a seal in their flesh, as a token and a sign, believing It was coming, and they walked by the shadow of the law. Which, they were circumcised by flesh.
66Today we don’t walk by the shadow of the law. We walk by the power of the resurrection. We walk by the power of the Spirit, Who is our true seal, our true Advocate, our true Comforter, our true sign that we have been born from Above; peculiar, odd people, acting funny, taking God at His Word, calling everything else wrong. God’s Word is right. That’s…Oh, my! That’s what the Holy Ghost is.
The Comforter
October 1, 1961 · Jeffersonville, Indiana
147 What is it? God’s Word anchored in your flesh, that gives you Eternal Life, that gives you the resurrection power to bring you from the things of the world, from blind traditions of man, to walk in the Sonlight of the health of God. That’s what the Comforter does. It lifts you out of that cellared condition. It brings you up in the Presence of God, and gives you an experience with God, that you can scream with Job, of old, “I know my Redeemer liveth!”
