1 John 2:12-13 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have *OVERCOME the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

1 John 2:14-18 14I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. 15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 18Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

1 John 5:5 Who is he that *OVERCOMETH the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

OVERCOMETH | G3528 nikao {nik-ah’-o} | conquer, prevail, to carry off the victory, come off victorious: hold fast faith even unto death against the power of foes, and temptations and persecutions; when one is arraigned or goes to law, to win the case, maintain one’s cause.

Faith Is Our Victory

59“Did not I tell you not to doubt?” He said to Jairus that night, or that day. “If you’ll only believe, you can see the glory of God.” Then faith overcomes death. Faith is the victory over death. Faith is the victory over sin. Faith is the victory over sickness. Faith is the victory over worry. Faith is the victory over flustrations. Faith is the victory over the world.

38Worry has no virtue to it, at all. Yeah, just—just—just skip worry, and accept faith.

39Someone said, “Well, now, what if you’re going to be shot in the morning, wouldn’t you worry?”

I said, “No, don’t think so.”

“Why?”

I said, “Worry couldn’t do nothing but make me worse.”

“Well, what good is it going to do to have faith?”

I said, “It might deliver me.” And that’s right, see.

40So worry has no virtue to it, at all, but faith has all virtue. Believe!

Now worry sometime cause it.

Faith Is Our Victory

October 4, 1958 · Jeffersonville, Indiana

62Now, faith is a conqueror. Faith is an overcomer. It just isn’t a—a peace-maker. It overcomes. “Faith is the victory that overcomes the world.” What does it do? What is faith? What is, to “conqueror”? Conquer and victory is the same. To conquer, it means “to beat down; to over-ride; to handcuff; to throw into prison.” It means that the sin that once ruled you, you rule it now. It means that you have overcome it. You are…You’ve whipped it. You are greater than it is. Oh, I feel religious right now!

63Which was first, a sinner or a Saviour? A Saviour, for a Saviour is more powerful than a sin. Which was first, the healer or a sickness. It couldn’t be a healer ’less He was over the sickness. It is a healer, It can conquer the sickness.

64And faith is the victory that overcomes every curse of the devil. Faith is the victory. Faith in what? Not faith in your church, not faith in your creed, not faith in some man. But, faith in Jesus Christ Who made the promise, that’s the victory. What is it? It is the victory. Say, “My arm is still crippled.” But faith is the victory. “I still feel sick.” But faith is the victory. Oh, it overcomes the world.

65When you can climb into God, by prayer, until you see the thing conquered under you, there is nothing that can hurt you then. You’ve overcome. You got fifty miles of elbow room. You’re sailing free then.

66You who have been a drunkard and a slave to whiskey, you will be the master over him then. That old devil of alcohol that made you drink, he’s your master now; but when you get faith, I don’t mean make-belief, real faith, he’s your servant then.

67You who can’t lay down tobacco, you women and men, when it comes to a place to where you can get to that spot, to where you have overcome it by faith, you’ll master it then.

68A little woman that’s sitting present now, she has been at this altar, time after time after time. A good woman, but she started smoking, a long time ago. And she just couldn’t overcome it. And she had come up, and I would pray with her, and seem like she just couldn’t overcome it. And the—the first thing you know, I told her here, I said, “There will be danger down the road.”

69She said, “Brother Branham, I have cried, I have begged.” You see, just emotional, fighting the air, that won’t do any good.

70And I’d get down and pray with her, and lay hands on her, and she’d go back. And—and a few days, I’d meet her again, just knock you down with cigarette smoke, hands still brown.

71And one night, down yonder, she went to a doctor. Begin to get sick and wither away, till just a little spindly thing. And the doctor looked into her, and he said, “Cancer! Smoking cigarettes!” There she was, laying there to die, then she got down to business. See? A drowning man will reach for a straw. Long as you can walk out of this church tonight, know you can go join the Methodist or Baptist. As long as you can sit in here and say, “Now I’ll just…I’m a good person. There’s nothing wrong with me.” Yeah, you can’t do nothing with you. That’s right.

72But when you see your sins as God sees them, in the light of His Bible; when you see, you’ll repent or perish. Something will take place. You’ll get to business.

73Walk out of here, and a smothering around your heart. The doctor back there will maybe raise up, and come up, look, say, “It’s a heart attack.” You’ll get to business.

74That’s when she had to get to business. And the woman is sitting, looking at me now.

75And Brother Roberson is back there, and Mr. Wood here, Brother Wood sitting here somewhere, and I, were going down hunting, I believe, somewhere, in the truck. And the Holy Spirit seemed to move us to go way up through the knobs, to where she was. And when I got there, she had had a dream. And when the Holy Spirit came into the room, and she got down to real business, she never smoked a cigarette from then on. And she has gained many pounds of weight, and they can’t find a trace of the cancer.

76What is it? It’s faith that overcomes. Why didn’t it overcome when I was praying for her here? She was just fluttering around. But when the doctor says, “You got cancer and going to die,” she got to business. That’s the way it has to get, when you get to business. Why wait that long? Why not get down to business now? Put your faith in God. What if the woman had had her faith in me? It’d a failed, ’cause I’m a man. But when she changed her faith, not in the Branham Tabernacle or in William Branham, or in anyone else, but placed her faith in Jesus Christ, then she got faith. She raised up above all the fears and doubts, and God healed her. And, oh, she overcome. Faith is the victory that overcomes.

What It Takes To Overcome All Unbelief: Our Faith

74When God speaks to a man, he has faith, and he has ambition, and he has a purpose. When God speaks to a man, He gives him a purpose. When God speaks to a man, He gives him ambition. When God speaks to a man, He gives him faith to do it, to accomplish, or achieve what his purpose in life is, what God called him to do. He’s called us to be in the church of God. Amen.

Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Genesis 3:22-23 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

ONE KEY TO OVERCOMING IS TO HAVE AN EAR TO HEAR!

Revelation 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Revelation 2:29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Revelation 3:6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Revelation 3:13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Revelation 3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Revelation 2:26-27 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Revelation 3:14-20 14And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

112 Remember, this is the seventh church age, the Laodicean Church Age. According to Revelation 3, they reject Christ. Of every church age that was mentioned in the Bible, the Laodicea Age was worst of all of them. It turned Him out, rejected Him, put Him on the outside.

66 But the thing is, today, the church grain don’t want to mature. It wants to stay like it was back in Moody’s time, Sankey, Finney, Knox, Calvin. They were all right, they were the light of the hour.

67 But this is another hour. This is another day. This is the advancement of the Gospel; It’s coming to its maturity. So we can’t live in what Luther said, Wesley said, or some of the rest of them. We’re living in the Light that’s predicted for this day. We’re in the seventh church age, not the third or fourth church age. The grain should be able to receive It. If it doesn’t, it falls off and It means nothing to it. The grain is matured with the Light if it goes ahead with the Light.

  1. The church age ending and has blacked out, the Bride is called, we have already entered into the tribulation period?

75 No, no, no, you’re…I wished that I could just have more time on that. See, see? The Bride, when She’s taken from the church, then the church age will cease. Laodicea goes into chaos; the Bride goes to Glory; and the tribulation period sets in upon the sleeping virgin for three and a half years while Israel is getting its prophecy; then tribulation sets in upon Israel; and then comes the battle of Armageddon which destroys all things. And then, the Bride returns back with the Groom for a thousand years, the Millennium reign; after that comes the White Throne Judgment; after that comes the New Heavens and New Earth and the New City coming down from God out of Heaven. Eternity and time blends together.

Chapter 7 · The Sardisean Church Age

Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to SIT with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

See, the bride is with Him in the throne. As she is to judge the world she has to be sitting in the judgment with Him. That is exactly what Daniel saw.

An Exposition Of The Seven Church Ages

Chapter 4 · The Smyrnaean Church Age

Character is a VICTORY, not a gift. A man without character can’t reign because power apart from character is Satanic. But power with character is fit to rule. And since He wants us to share even His throne on the same basis that He overcame and is set down in His Father’s throne, then we have to overcome to sit with Him. And the little temporary suffering we go through now is not worthy to be compared to the tremendous glory that will be revealed in us when He comes. Oh, what treasures are laid up for those who are willing to enter into His kingdom through much tribulation.

THE OVERCOMER’S THRONE

An Exposition Of The Seven Church Ages

Chapter 9 · The Laodicean Church Age

Revelation 3:21, “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne.”

Now what are we to overcome? That is the normal question to ask here. But that is not the actual thought of this verse for it is not so much WHAT we are to overcome but HOW we are to overcome. Now this is logical, for does it matter much WHAT we are to overcome as long as we know HOW we can overcome?

A quick look at those Scriptures which involve the Lord Jesus overcoming will bring out the truth of this proposition. In Matthew 4, wherein Jesus is tempted of the devil, He overcame the personal temptations of Satan by the Word, and by the Word only. In each of the three major trials that corresponded exactly to the temptation of the Garden of Eden, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life, Jesus overcame by the Word. Eve fell to the personal temptation of Satan by failing to use the Word. Adam fell in direct disobedience to the Word. But Jesus overcame by the Word. And right now, let me say that this is the only way to be an overcomer, also it is the only way that you can know if you are overcoming, because that Word CAN’T fail.

Now notice again how Jesus overcame the world systems of religion. When He was repeatedly badgered by the theologians of His day, He constantly applied the Word. He spake only what the Father gave Him to speak. There was not a time when the world was not utterly confused by His wisdom for it was the wisdom of God.

In his own personal life, contending with Himself, He overcame by obedience to the Word of God. In Hebrews 5:7 it says, “Who in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him That was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared; though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered; and being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him.” What was He obedient to? The Word of God.

Now then, there will not be one person who will sit in the throne of the Lord Jesus Christ unless he has been living that Word. Your prayers, your fastings, your repentances — no matter what you present to God — none of that will gain you the privilege of sitting in that throne. It will be granted only to the WORD Bride. As the throne of the king is shared with the queen because she is united to him, so only they who are of that Word even as He is of that Word will share that throne.

50 Then when He died, rose, ascended, and sent back the Holy Spirit, that was the Son of God. God is a Spirit, and through the Church Age it’s been Son of God.

51 And then in the Millennium, it’s Son of David, setting on the throne, ruling. He has ascended up. “He that overcomes shall sit with Me on My throne, as I have overcome, and set down on My Father’s throne.” He is setting on the Father’s throne now. But in the Millennium, He sets upon His Own throne, because He is the Son of David.

52 He is Son of man, Son of God, Son of David. See, it’s just perfectly.

33 Let’s go over to the Revelation. Jesus said Himself, “He that overcometh, I will give him the morning star.” The Bible said that. What is it? A overcomer, one that’s overcome the world, overcome self, overcome pride. “I’ll make him the morning star.” What does it to do? “I’ll shine him up and set him up there that I can… by My oncoming power will reflect My own Presence (Hallelujah.) in the darkness. He that overcomes, will I give the morning star.” What’s the morning star set there for? To reflect the sun coming. What is the morning star? Is the sun shining against it, reflecting the presence of the coming of the sun. It’s the brightest thing in heaven. The brightest thing in heaven ought to be today, and is today, the minister, or the Christian, or the Spirit filled man that’s so filled with the Holy Spirit till he’s forsaken the world and everything. And God is reflecting His light, coming through him, warning the world that the approaching S-o-n is at hand. Oh, what hour…

28 Those old Egyptian taskmasters had drove the people to do things that they were burdened to do. After they looked back in this Red Sea, they found them everyone drowned there. No wonder that Moses could sing a new song: sang in the Spirit. And Miriam picked up a tambourine and begin to beat the tambourine and run down the bank, dancing.

If that ain’t an old fashion Holy Ghost meeting, I never seen one. That’s right. And the daughters of Israel followed her, doing the same thing. They had overcome.

And a man never knows what it is to live a victorious life, until he’s completely overcome. Who? Himself? That’s the biggest enemy you got is yourself. That’s the reason you can’t rise up in faith, because you got intellectuals there. Your intellectual part says, “Well, this, or that.” It’s a reasoning. We want to cast down reasonings, the Bible tells us.

46 You’re scared. People today is afraid. What you afraid of? Why, even death itself don’t scare a Christian. “Death, where is thy sting?”

The very thoughts of people is scared. “Oh, Brother Branham, the doctor told me I just can’t get well.” What are you scared of? There’s an atonement laying for you yonder. Sure. “Well Brother Branham, I’ve done so much sins. I’ve…” What are you scared of? There’s an atonement waiting for you. There’s Someone Who loves you. Don’t be scared.

The constant Words of Jesus, “Fear not. I’m He that was dead, and is alive again, and alive for evermore. Fear not.” Get that atmosphere around you. Get the atmosphere.

“Now, he’s Methodist. He’s a Oneness. He’s a Trinitarian. He’s this or that.” Get that out of your mind.

“I love him. He’s my brother.”

“She’s a Catholic. She’s a Protestant. She’s a…” Get that out of your mind. Get an atmosphere around you. You’ll never do it standing out on this other court. You got to come into Christ first, live in His Presence.

The Bible said that, “He that overcometh, I’ll give him a new name. I’ll put My Spirit in him.” Watch, there’s an overcoming, first. You’ve got to overcome these things in order to be in Christ.

46 But you’ve got to surrender soul, body, spirit, strength, everything you are, to the will of God, become a prisoner to Him. You’re going to be somebody’s prisoner. You don’t belong to yourself. You are somebody’s prisoner. You’re either a prisoner of the devil, knowing this Truth and won’t surrender to It, or a prisoner to—to the world, and surrender to God, one or the other. You’re either the devil’s prisoner, to sin, or you’re God’s prisoner, to righteousness. You’re one or the other.

80 What was it? He always believed that He… How could Satan say that that man could be God? A man that could take the challenge of a priest, and let a drunken soldier spit in His face… Today we got the wrong conception of power. Power is overcoming, returning good for evil, that’s real power. That can love your enemy, do good to those that do evil to you. That’s real power; that’s God power. Yes. Maniacs can break chains. But it takes a real man to return good for evil, from his heart, not because of religious duty, but from his heart.

66 387. Brother Branham, please explain how a person knows if he is thinking his own thoughts, or if the devil is placing thoughts in his mind to make him think wrong, especially, if you know you do not want to think them.

67 Then, if it’s contrary to the Word, it’s the devil’s thinking. If it’s with the Word, it’s God thinking. If it’s the wrong thoughts, it’s the devil. If it’s good thoughts of the Word and of God, it’s God’s thinking.

  1. If the case may be that the devil is placing thoughts in your mind about a certain thing, how may it be overcome or got rid of?

68 Take the very vice versa from it. If the devil makes you think that—that—that you are…If you know you’re a Christian, and he tries to make you think you’re not a Christian, just take the versa, say, “I am a Christian.” As long as your experience matches in God’s Word say, “I’m a Christian.” Anything else, the same way. When you answer this, please pray for me to overcome this, as I am not by myself.

69 God grant your overcoming, ever who you are. May your thoughts just go right back the other side and say, “I am a Christian; I am a believer. Satan, you have no hold on me.”

70 Frankly, I’m standing right here now saying the same thing, keep from fainting right here at the pulpit. That’s right. Four or five times I’ve almost pitched over on the pulpit. That’s the truth. God knows that’s right.

  1. When a person realizes he has an inferior complex, or some sort of complex, how may he overcome this? So, should it be if he was the only child caused this in his early youth?

71 Take exactly the opposite. If you’re always wanting your way, and that one little brat that wants to always have everything your way, turn right back around and give everything you got the other way. If you’re selfish and you want to hold everything, then start giving away what you got. See? Do whatever…Just go the vice versa. That’s the way to overcome anything, is an antidote.

72 You’ve…My old, southern mother used to say, “Hair off the dog back is good for the bite.” And that applies this way too.

104 Look. Temptation was for Him. You know that? The Bible said, “He was tempted in all points like we are, yet without sin.” He was tempted by—by drinking. He was tempted by women. He was tempted by everything that could be tempted by. He was tempted by everything that we are. He was a Man, and yet you couldn’t put a mark on Him. Yes, sir.

105 Overcome means “to recognize the devil in every one of his tricks.” Lot of people says, “There is no devil. It’s just a thought.” Don’t you believe that. There’s a real devil. He’s just as real as you are or anybody. A real devil, and you must recognize him real. You must know he’s a devil. Then, the same time that you—you recognize him, and know that he’s a devil and he’s against you, then, to overcome, you must recognize that the God in you is greater and mightier than he is, that the One that’s in you has already overcome him. And, by His grace, you are more than a match for him. Amen. There’s real overcoming, when you recognize.

106 You look back, say, “I’m doing this and I’m doing that,” then, no, you—you, you’re defeated. “But there’s no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, that walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Then you realize that you’ve overcome. And you know that he’s a devil. You can’t say, “I got a sickness, and I—I—I—I don’t believe it is a sickness.” Oh, yes, it is a sickness. You got cancer, you “don’t believe it is a cancer.” It is a cancer. It is a cancer. But, remember, “Greater is He that’s in you than he that’s in the world.” You must realize that the Holy Spirit that’s in you has already overcome this thing. And He’s in you, and you can overcome by Him. That’s exactly sensible, it’s exactly the way the Scripture is written. Overcoming!

140 He come and suffered, and took the hard, rugged route. He took the route of persecution. He took the route of death. Are we, this morning, willing to do, take that same route that He taken? Are we willing to die? Are we willing to give ourselves up to God, forfeit all the world and the things, to serve for Him? See?

141 Now, He failed to do it. Willingly to—to forfeit it, Satan was, to Him. But He didn’t do it. Though Jesus was tempted, He overcome for us. He—He endured all temptations for me and for you. See? He could have took it right then. But what did He take the other route for? So that we could come, be with Him. And if He paid such a price as that, then how little would we be not to take it? When, remember, there’s nothing here, anyhow.

Chapter 3 · The Ephesian Church Age

And now to these Sons of God, who by Him overcome, are given the privilege of the paradise of God, and the constant fellowship of Jesus Christ. There will never more be any separation from Him. Whither He goes, His bride will go. What is His, He shares with His beloved on a joint-heir relationship. The secret things will be revealed. The dark things will be made plain. We shall know as we are known. And we shall be like Him. This is the heritage of the overcomer who has overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of testimony to Jesus Christ. How we long for that day when the crooked roads will all be straightened, and we will be with Him, time without end. May that day hasten its appearance, and may we hasten to obey His Word and thereby prove our worthiness to share His glory. “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” How tragic it is that this first age did not listen to the Spirit. Instead it listened to man. But thank God, in the last age there will be a group rise up, the True Bride of the last day, and she will listen to the Spirit. In that day of gross darkness the light will return by the pure Word and we will return to the power of Pentecost to welcome back the Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 4:8-10 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

43 Jesus had all the fine qualities of God in Him. Do you believe it? He had powers upon powers. But when He met Satan, He never used His power. He give an example for the weakest of Christians. When He met Satan, He said, “It is written. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” The weakest Christian can take that stand. Hold it. Sure, God’s in His Word.
