“Don’t talk fear, talk faith! David didn’t tell God how big Goliath was, David told Goliath how big his God was! Magnify the Lord!”
“And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.” 1 Sam. 17:42
Disdain: To think unworthy; to deem worthless.
The behemoth Goliath, mocked and scorned young David. He was utilizing the most over-used tool in our enemy’s arsenal, Intimidation; its purpose is to ignite fear and to cause someone to give up!
David was not moved that day by Goliath’s bad jokes or his threats. He simply stood firm, nothing to prove and nothing to lose. After all, no one else would respond to the giant’s daily challenges for a worthy opponent! David was not motivated by the promised riches or the King’s daughter as a prize. He grieved that the army of the God of Israel was being reproached and mocked!
Read David’s response in 1 Samuel 17:45-47.
David recognized a greater cause and he was willing to be used for that cause. He had to disregard the hard fact that all of Israel’s army had literally run away from the challenge!
He chose to ignore all the other voices crying out that day, to mock and to defy. He chose to listen to the VOICE of TRUTH! The inner VOICE of God’s Spirit was telling him that he was not alone, that the same God who had strengthened him to kill the lion and the bear, would advance with him to take on this champion as well.
He faced the giant that day with familiar weapons! One small stone in the sling of a yielded young man was all it took to bring the enemy down. Goliath died that day by his own sword and the power of an Almighty God! Have FAITH, the battle is the Lord’s!
